The Furlo is a reserve where nature remains untouched; it is a corner of paradise on earth. Everything here has remained the same as it once was, even the eagle has chosen these mountains to build its nest! In the absolute tranquility during the day, the evening is populated by animals that come down to the river to drink, and it's not uncommon to come across hedgehogs, wild boars, deer and foxes on the road. In this well-preserved area of the Marche region, there is truly a lot to discover and enjoy. It is the ideal place for all lovers of relaxation, nature, photography, trekking, cycling, motorcycling or simply for taking walks in a unique landscape in every season. Following the old Flaminia road, which runs alongside the Candigliano river through the Furlo Gorge, it is possible to pass through a tunnel carved by Emperor Vespasian. The tunnel is located at the narrowest point of the gorge, which was called "petra pertusa" or "forulum" (small hole), from which the name "Furlo" derives. Next to it, you will find an Etruscan passage and a small church called "della Botte," which was once inhabited by a hermit. You can take various routes through the gorge or along the trails of Mount Paganuccio (976 m) and Mount Pietralata (889 m), where you can still see the remains of Mussolini's profile. For more information, a few meters from our B&B, you will find the headquarters of the Natural Park of the Nature Reserve, which also houses a small Fossil Museum. In just a few minutes by car, you can reach the imposing massif of Mount Catria (1702 m above sea level), which can be extensively explored thanks to a dense network of well-marked trails. Here, you can also ski during the winter season. It is a true paradise for botany and mycology enthusiasts. Culture: Nearby, you will find art cities, ancient villages, and castles that are worth a visit: Urbino with its Ducal Palace, Fossombrone with its Fortress and historic center, the Castle of Mondavio, the Castle of Frontone, the Rocca di Piobbico, the Castle of Gradara, Gubbio with its Palace of the Consuls, the Hermitage of Fonte Avellana, and the Frasassi Caves. Food and Wine: Our area is known for its exquisite homemade cuisine, based on fresh pasta, game meat, aged cheeses, "crescia" (a local flatbread), wines, and above all truffles (see the National White Truffle Fair in Acqualagna). Sea and Hills: From Furlo, through the expressway, you can easily reach Fano in about 15 minutes; here you will find beaches and beach facilities to spend the whole day at the sea.
